FREE CAMPING: A report will be brought back to District Council of Grant elected members within three months regarding free camping policies.

A REPORT will be brought back to District Council of Grant elected members within three months regarding free camping policies.

Elected members discussed a report detailing the events of free camping sites throughout the festive season.

According to the report a number of incidents were reported to council officers and SAPOL with most complaints from campers at Eight Mile Creek.

SAPOL and the Country Fire Service (CFS) attended a number of incidents where campers had comfort fires despite not being allowed.

Elected members opted to review the free camping policy within a three month period as well as host a workshop in the same time period.

District Council of Grant Director of Environmental Services Leith McEvoy said information regarding what campers could and could not do was difficult online with different websites stating different things.
