A STRONG field of 15 Wingless Sprints provided the crowd with some exciting racing at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway on Saturday night.

Among a field of Victorians was lone South Australian Rory Button, whose night started disastrously with a DNF in his opening heat.

That put Button behind the eight-ball, but he dug deep to climb from sixth to third in his second

qualifier.

The 25-lap final was an exciting affair as the field raced in close quarters over the journey.

Jeremy Pearson led the race from pole position for the first 15-laps, before a successful challenge by Robert Whiteside saw him take control.

He led for the next nine laps as he and second-generation racer Jayden Lock encountered lapped traffic on the final corners.

One went high and the other low, allowing Lock to poke his nose in front as the duo raced to the line.

Whiteside finished runner-up in what was too close to call by the naked eye.

The transponder would tell the tale of the outcome, with Lock the winner by a mere 0.189 of a second.

Pearson held on to the final step of the podium.

Button produced a solid run, coming from 14th position to slice his way through for a credible fifth placing.
