The Salvation Army commerates fallen soldiers

PIPES: The Blue lake Highland Band performed several songs.

Fallen soldiers, and the ones left behind, have been commemorated in the Annual Salvation Army Accolade this year,

The service, attended by dignitaries and community members, acknowledged the sacrifice made by Australians in times of conflict – not just those on the front line, but nurses, entertainers, the families that were left behind and those who still work to assist the people that returned.

Accolades were given by members of the community to loved ones, and those that served, including members of Legacy, nurses, members of the Salvation Army band, the wounded and their carers, the female staff of the Darwin Post Office, airmen who never returned and their wives and children.

Music, prayers and accolades were given throughout the night, and people dug deep to give a donation during the service, which will be donated to Legacy.

Returned Services League president Bob Sandow honoured local veterans and supporters, and Salvation Army communications and public relations officer Duan Kereru talked about The Salvation Army and where it all began.

Wreaths were laid, and the last post sounded, before attendees enjoyed a supper together.
