THE 30th annual Kings Challenge is upon us, with high-octane action promised at the Borderline Speedway this Thursday night.
In preparation for the event there have been a few spectator-friendly modifications to the venue, specifically to enhance the viewing experience for those on the hill.
Some of those were put to the test at the recent Speedweek round, with club president Cary Jennings pleased to see a new grass area being utilised at that event.
“We have done some new work out at the speedway,” he said.
“We have removed our grandstand which has opened up the grass area for viewing.
“I noticed (at the Speedweek meeting) there was a lot of people sitting in that vacinity, taking in the good views.”
Another upgrade will give spectators a unique view of the track.
“We have a new mound at the moment which has been grassed,” Jennings said.
“We are hoping to see that being used at the Kings Challenge.
“That is an enourmous mound that people can sit up on and they are probably 30 feet above the track – it is an all grass area.”
With a strong field of 62 drivers, which includes 10 Americans, a quality night of racing is promised to those who attend.
Gates open at 3pm.
