THE Limestone Coast was graced with a whirlwind visit from the South Australian Governor Frances Adamson AC this week.

Her Excellency visited a range of facilities prior to attending Robe’s centenary anniversary of its War Memorial.

Governor Adamson also met with Mount Gambier City Council members and Mayor Lynette Martin before touring the Boandik Lodge Wellness Centre and attending an afternoon tea with Grant District Council at Port MacDonnell Community Complex.

“I had breakfast with Mount Gambier City Council which was a really good opportunity to be briefed on what is a pretty exciting city with strong growth prospects and some significant infrastructure projects that are quite well advanced,” Governor Adamson said.

“There is a striking sense of community here which is very evident to me even from Adelaide as I can see the number of nominations for awards and recipients that come from this area.”

The Governor was also briefed on the up and coming Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre, stating it was a very exciting project.

“I believe the centre will be transformational for the local community and the region and expect it will attract other major sporting events potentially across the border or at a state and national level,” she said.

“Council has obviously worked very hard to reach this point of construction, especially during the pandemic but the prospects are very strong indeed.”

Speaking on her tour of the award winning Boandik Lodge Wellness Centre, the Governor said it was yet another fantastic facility within Mount Gambier.

“I had the opportunity to walk in and see some people going through their paces in the hydrotherapy pool and it obviously has a clear purpose,” she said.

“The fact that it is enabling people to undergo rehabilitation after injury, help older people maintain mobility, enable people to prepare for surgery and many more options it is clear it has an important role in the community.”

Despite the whirlwind visit, Governor Adamson said the Limestone Coast was always an attractive destination to her after previously passing through.

“I have been down to the Limestone Coast on a number of occasions during my travels to Canberra, however I have not been able to stop properly and spend a few days here so I was pleased to have that opportunity,” she said.

Governor Adamson also visited a number of Christmas-based volunteers from various organisations, including the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

“The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is a very important thing and we had a lovely time this morning meeting volunteers and wrapping presents,” she said.

“I also met with Boandik Lodge residents during their Christmas lunch and found out Mount Gambier is very Christmas and community focused.”
