BLUE LAKE 1 d INTERNATIONAL 0

JUST like the men’s clash, the Limestone Coast women’s soccer Anzac Day honours went to Blue Lake.

The Rangers claimed a one-goal win over home team International in what was a quality arm wrestle of a match.

The first half went without score as both teams fought hard for supremacy.

However, the deadlock could not be broken until the midpoint of the second half, where Blue Lake’s Aimee Brooks scored the match winner in the 56th minute.

From there the arm wrestle continued and despite best efforts Inter was unable to break through the Rangers’ defence for the equaliser.

This week Inter will hope to bounce back against Millicent at home, while Blue Lake visits Gambier Centrals in what should be another win for the Rangers.

APOLLO 1 d MILLICENT 0

Close results were the order of the round in Limestone Coast women’s soccer over the weekend.

Another one-goal win occurred at Millicent when Apollo visited the home team.

In a similar fashion it was an arm wrestle of a match, won by the visitors when Demi Ingley scored just before half time.

That would be the game and no other goal was scored for the remaining 43 minutes.

As such the second half was a back-and-forth contest with neither side able to break through enemy lines.

The win was enough to keep Apollo on top of the ladder, ahead of Blue Lake by percentage.

Meanwhile, Millicent sits in third place with just the one win from two outings.

This week Apollo visits Naracoorte and will chase a third win on the trot, while Millicent looks to bounce back against International.

GAMBIER CENTRALS 2 d NARACOORTE 1

After a busy second half at Naracoorte, Gambier Centrals produced a one-goal victory – its first win of the season.

The opening half was a deadlock and neither side was able to find a successful avenue to goal.

Stuck at nil-all at half time, both teams came out with intent in the second term.

During the excitement of those opening minutes Centrals’ Andi Corfield found the middle of the goal posts to put the Lions on the board.

Shortly after a penalty was awarded and Kiah Connolly converted it to give the guests a two-goal lead.

Not to be outdone, Naracoorte hit back through Sophie Hole to narrow the margin, but the scoreline would remain at 2-1 until the final whistle.

It will be another challenge for Naracoorte when it faces Apollo this Sunday, while Centrals hosts Blue Lake on Saturday.
