THE Mount Gambier and District Baseball League and the Central Baseball Club will endeavour to set a new record when they host the Worlds Biggest Game of Baseball on Sunday.

The game will take place on diamond one at the Blue Lake Sports Park baseball complex at approximately 1pm.

Central’s two Division 3 teams will line up and numbers will consist of current members of both teams, who will take the opportunity to play alongside other family members, all who are current or past members of the CBC.

The game is an official MGDBL Division 3 game and all players will be registered with the South Australian Baseball League.

In Division 3 Centrals has at least one family where the adult player is playing regularly with his grandson, who is an up-and-coming junior player.

The club hopes the web of relatives playing in the game will set some sort of record.

With no limit to numbers on the roster in a baseball game here in Australia, it provides a real chance for a fantastic family day of sport.

One family involved in the club has the father is still a current Division 3 Central player, his wife a past player, three of their children are still playing locally with the CBC, one is the only daughter and the eldest son will return from Adelaide to participate.

The day promises to thrust the league and Centrals – as one of the foundation clubs of the competition – into the spotlight.

The MGDBL commenced in 1931 and as a foundation member club, Centrals is approaching its 100th year of participation in the league.

The CBC is the largest club within the MGDBL and has been very successful.

The club continues to field teams in all grades, which includes two teams in Division 3 – Central Magpies and Centrals.

The club welcomes anyone who wants to have a go at baseball, no matter what their ability, gender or age.

Like all clubs in the league, Central does struggle to field teams for various reasons, mainly due to baseball being classed as a minor sport in Australia, which therefore lacks media coverage at the highest level.

The club hopes this particular day can turn the spotlight on the sport, at least here in the Limestone Coast and showcase what there is to offer in the region.

All are welcome to attend on the day to offer support and see an exciting spectacle, with full catering provided.
