Money raised for worthy cause

FOR A CAUSE: Bowlers enjoy the Wheel to Walk fundraising event at the Robe Bowls Club.

THE Robe Bowling Club held its Wheel to Walk twilight bowls last week, which was hailed a big success financially and socially.

The weather was kind, with no rain or wind and everyone enjoyed the night, with around $1500 raised for spinal research.

The bowls was sponsored by Robe Seafood and Takeaway and the Robe Bowling Club and the winners in a phantom draw were Lucy Smith, Halle Carter, Sophie Kokiousis and Rohan Mason.

Winners of the raffle sponsored by Mahalia coffee, Mike’s Beef Jerky, Robe Post Office, Flint’s Wine and Robetown Chocolate Factory were won by Rachael Kennett and Cathy Brewin.

Thursday social bowls sponsored by the Robe Caledonian Inn saw two two-game winners – Baxter Kennett and Maria Cooper and winners of the vouchers on 53 points were Jerry Dening and Rob Lawrie.

The women’s Friday pennant saw both Divisions 2 and 3 at home.

Division 2 claimed a big win against Penola and Division 3 played out a draw against Mount Gambier RSL.

In Division 2 Robe won 8 points 74 shots to Penola’s 0-22.

Tracey Gray, Pam Robinson, Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham won 29-18 against Kaye Batt’s team and Barb Brown, Helen Lynch, Bronwyn Matthews and Valma Jennings had a big win against Gail Hetherington’s team 45-4.

Division 3 saw the excitement remain until the final bowl, with scores locked at 4-45 each.

Nesla Boundy, Clare DeLaine, Lorraine Dening and Jan Fisk lost 19-23 against Margaret Finnis’s team and Maria Cooper, Robin Dahler, Kerrie Boyd and Ann Moore won 26-22 against Kath Hearne’s team.

Both Saturday Open teams played away with Division 1 playing Mount Gambier RSL Red and Division 3 Port MacDonnell.

In Division 1 Robe 8-67 defeated RSL Red 4-64.

Errol Jennings, Rob Lawrie, Ken Smith and Peter Roachock defeated Michael Fox’s team 32-17.

Jim Gray, Peter DeLaine, Stephen Kennett and Harold Manton lost 15-25 to Neil Tobin’s team and Pat Lynch, Vic Dawson, Dean Burgoyne and David Robinson had a close one, going down 20-22 to Strawb Masters’ team.

Division 3 saw Robe 0-50 go down to Port MacDonnell 12-100.

Josh Waddell, Paul Truelove, Jo Sykes and Dean Woodward lost to Kel Butler’s team 17-34, Barry Bennett, Bill Cook, Gordon Brown and Ali Douglas lost to Don Forbes team 18-33 and Ross Dening, Trevor Wagner, Mark Murphy and Deane Nankivell lost 15-33 to Terry Seiler’s team.

Division 3 women have a bye this week, while Division 2 plays away at Port MacDonnell.

Saturday Open Division 1 and 3 play Millicent home.
