Strong Australian Cross-Country Championship results

STATE REPRESENTATIVES: Mount Gambier cross country runners Harrison Ellis and Jacob Salmon finished with good results in the South Australian state teams at the recent 2018 Cross-Country Championships on the Sunshine Coast.

MOUNT Gambier youngsters Jacob Salmon and Harrison Ellis returned from their recent 2018 Australian Cross-Country Championships with positive results.

Making the trip to the Sunshine Coast where they competed as part of the South Australian state teams, Ellis finished just outside the top 10 in the 10-year-old boy’s event.

He finished a credible 11th in a field of 40 entrants, a massive achievement as he competed against some of the country’s best young runners.

Salmon also ran well to finish 22nd in a field of 43 11-year-old boys.

The course was quite difficult and hilly, with the South Australian state coach describing it as the most difficult he had ever seen.

Ellis took home the gold medal in the cross country team’s event, as his squad finished with third, fourth, 11th and 17th place runners.

The team also finished up with the bronze medal in the relay event, which was run on a fast, flat course.

For Salmon, his squad finished fourth in both team events, with less than a metre separating the side from a bronze medal in the relay.
