Golf: Pedlar opens monthly medal account in style

TOP SHOOTERS: Mount Gambier Golf Club C Grade and monthly medal winner Lyn Hudson, B Grade winner Kate McCormick and A Grade winner Kerry Pedlar.

THE first monthly medal competition for 2018 attracted 29 women to the Attamurra golf course last Wednesday.

Played in perfect conditions, good scores once again prevailed and the stroke round doubled as the second qualifying round of the women’s club championships.

In A Grade the winners were reversed from last week, with Kerry Pedlar top scoring with 96-16-80 nett to take the winner’s voucher from Faye Mainwaring with 93-12-81 nett.

Kate McCormick played to her handicap after a steady round with 98-25-73 nett to claim the B Grade voucher, from last week’s winner Chris Galpin with 101-24-77 nett.

The best score for the day was in C Grade when Lyn Hudson won her grade and the monthly medal with 100-27-73 nett.

Runner-up was Linley Gray with 109-34-75 nett.

In D grade, Dartmoor visitor Mardi Bawden claimed the honours with a score of 107-38-69 nett from Donna Jennings with 118-42-76 nett.

Other prizes were awarded to Jan Shanahan for the putting competition and second shot winners on the sixth hole were Helen McIntyre (A Grade), Marie Douglas (B) and Heather Chapman (C).

Kate McCormick was successful with the pro shot on the eighth hole.

Ball competition winners were Jan Shanahan, Mary Kentish, Heather Barry, Jennette Braun and Yvonne Shirley.

On Sunday the top four players in each grade will face off in the semi finals.

In A Grade Faye Mainwaring has a bye, enabling her a spot in the final on Sunday, April 15, while Kerry Pedlar will play Helen Gregory.

In B Grade Chris Galpin will play Di Norman and Carol Smith will play Bernie Jennings.

In C Grade Lyn Hudson will play Lois Harvey, while Betty McKechnie will play Jennette Braun.

The D Grade players will play an 18 hole stableford behind the finalists to determine the winner.
