ROUND 7 of Mount Gambier and District tennis kicked off over the weekend, with A1 opening the proceedings on Friday night, followed by the other grades on Saturday.

This week the women’s doubles saw top side Saints United with the bye, giving the chasing teams a chance to move closer to the number one spot.

Uniting Church remains a single premiership point behind Saints, after it was defeated by Allendale East, which currently holds third place.

Reidy Park has bettered its position, now sitting equal on wins with both Allendale and Uniting Church after it easily accounted for Mil Lel.

Due to a washout, the match between Moorak and Glencoe Gold was called off and announced as a draw, while Glencoe Maroon dominated over West Gambier.

Played on its home courts, Uniting Church suffered a four-set loss to Allendale East, with Vivienne Wilson and Janine Duke the only combination to win a game.

They accounted for Brittany Stark and Janet Stephens 6-3.

The remainder of the games went the way of Allendale, with Stephens and Emma Fensom having a close game against Uniting Chrch’s Sandra Stokes and Duke to win 7-5.

Another close game was had between Wilson and Stokes against Stark and Fensom, with the latter duo claiming the win 6-4.

Reidy Park hosted Mil Lel for a convincing win on Saturday, winning majority of its games by large margins.

The closest match-up for the day saw Reidy Park’s Chris Lloyd and Bernadette Nash go head-to-head with Mil Lel’s Merry Dickins and Fiona Harten, with the hosts claiming the win, 7-5.

The next closest game saw Rosie Collins and Michelle Coote with a 6-3 win over Diana Cross and Sally Seebohm.

At the conclusion of play, Reidy Park won all six sets, with Mil Lel only able to secure 11 games throughout the day.

Another devastating win was had by Glencoe Maroon when it hosted the bottom-placed West Gambier.

With 6-0 losses in three of its matches, the final results saw West with only six games for the day, while Glencoe’s final score of 6-36 was more than enough to claim the honours for Round 7.

As the season stands, Saints United sits at the top of the ladder with five wins and one loss, closely followed by Uniting Church with four wins, two losses and a draw.

Allendale East and Reidy Park round out the top four, both sitting on four wins and two losses.
