LSEBA: Mount Gambier RSL smashes rival

Division 1

Mount Gambier RSL Red 99/16 d Mount Gambier Blue 45/0

AS expected, Mount Gambier RSL Red was dominant against Mount Gambier Blue when they met in Round 8 of Lower South East Bowling Association’s Saturday Open Pennant competition on the weekend.

The RSL Red team had a lead of 54 by the end of play.

All three rinks led throughout the game, but Mount Gambier Blue’s Steve Farrell, Beryl Versluis, Gary Widdison and David Babb (skip) offered some early resistance against RSL’s Jamie Lambert, Ralph Stafford, Michael Fox and Graham Ellis (skip).

After the 10th end, the RSL four left their opponents behind and won 30-16.

Jason Kuring, Graham Crowder, Peter Roachock and Neil Tobin (skip) were well up before Leanne Hentschke, John Hughes, Geoff Collins and Ian Von Stanke could string some scores together in the closing stages.

Tobin’s four won 33-19.

Robert Corner, Deane Wilkinson, Chris Waugh and Andy Ashby (skip) scored freely against Tim Radley, Steve Smith, Kym Jones and Jeff England and won decisively 36-10.
Mount Gambier

RSL Blue 99/16 d Lucindale 48/0

MOUNT Gambier RSL Blue collected all 16 points on offer when it headed to Lucindale on the weekend.

After a slow start to the season, the Blue side have moved up through field in recent weeks to now sit in fifth.

Tim Wrightson, Ian MacIntosh, Gary Feast and Strawb Masters (skip) held Eric Pitt’s four scoreless for the first eight ends.

Pitt’s four did get back into the game, but RSL had done enough damage early to win 24-15.

Dougie McPhail, Craig Pearson, Graham Dent and Ben Masters (skip) also leapt out of the blocks against Geoff Smith’s four.

Dropping only seven of the 25 ends, they won comfortably 31-12.

Gary Bowering, Fiona Pearson, Greg Whitehead and Ron Ploenges (skip) had a more difficult game against Rodney Willmott’s team.

They first hit the front on the 20th end, then slipped behind, before finishing with five, one and two shots for a 25-21 result.

Division 2

Mount Gambier RSL Red 99/16 d Port MacDonnell 48/0

MOUNT Gambier RSL Red more than doubled Port MacDonnell’s score when it defeated the home side 99-48 on Saturday.

Ian Colbey, David Anderson, Bob Milligan and Noel Miller (skip) enjoyed a day out against Bruce Bain, Don Forbes, Robin Bilney and Ron Cox, winning 20 ends and amassing a huge 43-8 winning score.

Paul Griffiths, Max Schultz, Ian Moulden and Des Moulden (skip) recovered from an ordinary start and took the upper hand against Bart Lethlean’s team to win 32-19.

Beginning strongly, Simon Attiwill, Gary Fox, Graham Smith and Ron Edlington (skip) maintained a lead of roughly 10 shots through the middle section of their game against Bob Hutchesson’s team.

They then survived a surge to the line to win 24-21.

Penola 75/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 74/2

DESPITE leading by six shots with just one end to play, all three Mount Gambier RSL Blue rinks dropped shots to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when playing Penola.

Karen Doman’s four finished up 12, John Spehr’s down eight and Laurie Beck’s down five, which left Mount Gambier RSL trailing by a solitary shot at the end of play.

Division 3

Mount Gambier RSL Red 81/14 d Mount Gambier 73/2

A GOOD eight-shot win was the result for Mount Gambier RSL Red when it played Mount Gambier.

Very little separated the combined scores throughout the day and as a result Mount Gambier RSL was pleased to bag the points.

Bob White’s team defeated John Kentish’s 32/-2, Alby McIntyre’s four won again George Kuhl’s 27-23 and Tony Freeman’s team lost to Marg Marshall’s 22-28 over the day.

Mount Gambier RSL Blue 79/16 d Millicent Red 59/0

A SOLID win over Millicent Red at home was Mount Gambier RSL Blue’s pleasing result on the weekend.

The win is a reversal of the two sides clash in Round 1 this season.

Best performers were Laurie Franklin, Wally Brown, Kim Franklin and Les James (skip) with a 30-16 victory.
