THE second round of Mount Gambier and District tennis hit off last Friday night with the A1 games and a B1 match-up between Moorak Green and Uniting Church.

This clash saw Moorak the victor, winning eight sets to Uniting Church’s four.

The B1 competition then continued on Saturday, which saw Suttontown Tigers play Mount Gambier in a close contest for the points.

Suttontown won the clash by a narrow two sets.

For the men, Mount Gambier’s Daryl Ferguson played a solid game to defeat Suttontown’s Tom Inglis 6-0, while Leighton Hancock also performed, defeating Cory Sharam 6-3.

However, after these games Mount Gambier had some mixed results, as Suttontown’s Andrew Hogg proved to be a solid force, recording a 6-0 win over Will Cameron.

Suttontown’s women were also hard to put down, as Casey Sampson defeated Lucy Clarke 6-4 and Aimee McLaughlin secured a 6-3 win over Renae Nicholson.

Rounding out the singles matches, Suttontown’s Molly Lennon claimed a 6-1 victory over Kate Eldridge.

In the doubles games it was another mixed bag of results, but Suttontown was able to get the better of its opponent and take out the overall honours.

In other games, West Gambier went head-to-head with Suttontown Crows for a four-set win.

In the top-number men’s games, Zane Young recorded a 6-4 win over Jason Cooper for West, while a closer win for the victors was had when Rylan Ward defeated Neil Hurling 7-5.

For the women, West’s Charli Hockey also won her game against Vanessa Williamson 7-5, while Emily Jolley joined her team mate with a 6-2 triumph over Jennifer Murrell.

The final B1 match for the round saw Mil Lel claim a two-set win over Centrals Grey.

The match of the day was fought between Mil Lel’s Shaunn Robinson and Centrals’ Nathan Schubert.

Going down to a tie-breaker, it was Schubert who secured the win for his team, but it was not quite enough to help his team across the line.
