COVID-19 confirmed at Warrnambool

WARRNAMBOOL has recorded its first COVID-19 case in over 14 weeks with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) currently conducting a thorough contact-tracing investigation.

Reported on Sunday, it is the sixth confirmed case for the western Victorian city.

Meanwhile, Moyne Shire Council has completed work to eliminate any localised risks following the visit to Port Fairy of a family which tested positive to COVID-19.

The family of four holidayed in Port Fairy between July 2 and 4.

The accommodation facility which hosted the family has since undergone a deep clean and has reopened to the public.

Moyne Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Meade said the case was a reminder the region was not immune to the virus.

“The DHHS have told us their investigation and contract tracing process has not identified any additional close contacts or risks within the community,” Cr Meade said.

“As a result of this we are confident the risk of community transmission is low.

“That does not mean we can relax, it’s more important than ever to maintain our COVID-safe practices of social distancing and good hand washing.”
