Glencoe-born pulp and paper industry veteran Michael Scanlon is heading home to the South East region after calling time on a 57-year career.

His final day of work was in Sydney on Friday when Kimberly-Clark Australia managing d i r e c t o r Doug Cunningham hosted a celebratory function at the company’s headquarters.

Among the presentations made were a framed letter of appreciation USA KimberlyClark Corporation global chief executive Michael Hsu.

Such accolades are considered rare as the worldwide company has a 50,000 strong workforce.

Before his retirement, Mr Scanlon had been honoured with the naming of a room at the new North Sydney headquarters of Kimberly-Clark Australia.

His career started as a teenage stores clerk in 1963 at the Cellulose Mill at Snuggery in the days when the currency was pounds, shillings and pence.

Mr Scanlon was appointed the purchasing officer at the sister KCA Millicent Mill in 1978 and he ended his career as the procurement manager in the Sydney head office.
