SOUTH Australia Police has temporarily suspended all static and block random breath testing operations in response to national and state health strategies addressing the current COVID-19 situation.

Head of SAPOL traffic policing in South Australia, Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott, said a number of other Australian police agencies have already undertaken a similar course of action.

“Our priority is to balance road safety needs with the health risks associated with COVID-19 for operational police officers and the community more broadly,” Asst Comm Parrott said.

Police will continue to use mobile RBT as a legitimate and safe method to continue to enforce road safety and provide our operational members with the confidence to do so.

“Drink and Drug driving was a contributing factor in 11 lives lost on South Australian roads in 2019,” Asst Comm Parrott said.

“South Australia Police will continue to enforce drink and drug driving using mobile random testing. If you drink or take drugs and drive, you can be caught anywhere, anytime.”
