REFURBISHMENT of the Nangwarry Pool began at the site last week.

Wattle Range Council chief executive officer Ben Gower said the first stage included removing the tiles around the large pool and the dividing wall from the toddler pool.

“Works have now started on the concrete repairs and resurfacing of the beloved community pool,” Mr Gower said.

The replacement of the tiles and new rendering will be undertaken this month.

“The pool surface will then be prepared for painting and it is expected to be completed during December,” Mr Gower said.

He said following the painting works, the pools will be filled and the upgrade to the chlorine system will start.

“At this stage, it is likely that works will be completed in late February or early March,” Mr Gower said.

“There are no plans to open the pool for this swimming season.”

The renovations were funded following a broad community effort to retain the facility through the Save Our Pool campaign last year.

Wattle Range Council settled on a four-part motion sparing the pool from immediate demolition in May 2017 due to a strong display of community spirit.

To avoid any delays to the refurbishment works, the community is asked to stay away from the construction site and direct any inquiries regarding the pool to Wattle Range Council on 8733 0901.
