THIS IS A TRIBUTE: Millicent singer Jason Baker has released a song as a tribute to all emergency services attending fires across the country.

A TRIBUTE song to emergency services who have volunteered their time during the bushfire season has received national acknowledgement.

Written and performed by Millicent musician Jason Baker, a recording of the song Great Southern Burning Land has already amassed over 60,000 hits online.

Mr Baker said he was inspired to write the song – which reflects on the nation’s bushfire crisis – while driving to work one morning.

“I saw how bad the smoke was here around town and thought how worse it must be for those who are directly affected,” Mr Baker said.

“The song is a tribute to the emergency services and those who have lost everything.”

The song took just one week to produce with Mr Baker receiving an overwhelming community response.

“I never expected the community to be so on board with the song,” the musician said.

“I have received messaged from across Australia and it is safe to say the amount of times this song has been shared is a personal best for me.”

The emerging artist is half of the locally renowned JB and Crowey duo which has made a name for itself around the Limestone Coast over the last three years.

“I had always been shy and not very confident but I was at a part one night and my friend Crowey started playing,” Mr Baker said.

“I just started singing and we decided to start jamming together.”

The jamming sessions soon turned into gigs with Mr Baker enjoyed the live music scene.

“It is a good feeling when people want to hear you play, especially people you have grown up with,” he said.

“Sometimes it is good to go out of the local area to validate that we are not just local legends but I enjoy doing both.”

Mr Baker said the best thing about performing was the appreciation shown from people while on stage.

“I do not think we have ever done a gig where people are not happy,” he said.

“It is always a good feeling when people appreciate what you do.”

Mr Baker’s newest single is available to listen to on all major streaming networks.
