Festive season ballet performance for theatre

MAGICAL: Melbourne City Ballet’s The Nutcracker will hit the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre stage next week.

MELBOURNE City Ballet will add to the festive season this month when the company performs a Christmas classic at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

STAGE SENSATION: Melbourne City Ballet will visit Mount Gambier next week for a special Christmas performance of The Nutcracker.

The company will perform renowned ballet The Nutcracker on December 23 in Mount Gambier.

Audiences will be swept up in the magic of the season when the Melbourne City Ballet dancers bring the iconic Christmas tale to life on stage.

The story follows young Clara who falls asleep on Christmas Eve and as the clock strikes midnight she is transported to a wonderful world where toys become larger than life.

Her beloved Nutcracker defends her from the evil Mouse King while stunning snowflakes dance delicately.

In a joyous explosion of colour, set to Tchaikovsky’s inspired score, Melbourne City Ballet’s The Nutcracker is bound to enchant audiences from the first moment.

Returning from their first tour to Tasmania, Melbourne City Ballet will tracke new ground by crossing the border to bring this festive ballet to audiences in South Australia.

Ballet artistic director Michael Pappalardo said the performance was the perfect festive treat.

“What is more special than taking a loved one to see The Nutcracker at Christmas time?” he said.

“This iconic ballet is such a cherished tradition for so many people that we are sure it will cement itself as a firm favourite in our repertoire.”
