LAST Wednesday the semi-finals of the Cafe Belgiorno’s Women’s Handicap Championship’s were played at the Blue Lake Golf Club, with a stableford competition for those not involved.

The day brought drizzly rain, which added to the challenge of newly-cored and sanded greens.

The Division 1 first semi-final between Ronda Edwards and Dianne Perryman saw Edwards having to give six handicap strokes to Perryman and was 2-up after the front nine.

She scored six pars overall to finish strongly with a 5/4 win.

The second semi-final saw Karen Panagopoulos defeat Lee-Anne Medhurst 4/3 after relinquishing five handicap strokes and was 3-up after nine holes.

Medhurst did fight back, with wins on the 10th and 11th holes to be 1-down, but Panagopoulos dug deep taking the win on the 15th.

In the Division 2 match between Trudy Herbert and Bernadette Pedlar, it was the experience of Herbert winning out with a comfortable 6/5 victory.

Pedlar did receive an extra three strokes and the scores were a mixture of win and loss, with three squared holes.

The second semi-final saw the pairing of Jaynee Oberer and the current 2023 handicap champion Johanna Gogan, who went down 3/2.

Oberer jumped out of the gate to lead 4-up after nine holes that included a birdie two on the fifth hole.

In the stableford event, playing off a 15 handicap Rosemary Martland was the winner in Division 1, posting 32 points with splits of 17/15.

It included pars on the first, third, 14th and 15th holes, with a wipe on the 10th.

Sue Agars (19) was runner-up with 31 points.

Her splits of 18/13 included pars on the fourth, fifth and 11th holes, with wipes on the 12th and 13th.

Division 2 winner was Lyn Gill (45) after a count-back from Lynda Nannings (30), with both signing for 29 points.

Gill had splits of 13/16 and Nannings 15/14 with a par on the 14th hole.

Third place went to Janine Dunn with 28 points from splits of 10/18 and also a par on the 14th hole.

Nearest the pin 2nd shot on the par 3 second hole winners were Sue Agars (2.47cm) and Beryl Mahoney (2.56cm).

The pro-shot winner was Agars and Nannings won a chocolate bar voucher for a ferret on the fifth hole.

Meanwhile, it was the “Captains Day” on Saturday, with Annette Ford for the women and Gavin Coon the men.

In the women’s section, 14 players vied for double the normal Saturday prize rundown and was played in stroke format.

The winner after a four-way count-back was Lyn Annand 106/34/72, with an outward score of 56 and inward of 50, plus pars on the fifth, 15th and 16th holes.

Runner-up was Annette Ford 99/27/72 splits of 52/47, with pars on the second and 13th.

Helen Stratford 94/22/72 was third with pars on the fifth and 16th holes in her splits of 50/44.

Receiving a ball in the rundown were Dianne Perryman nett 72, Cherryl Hill nett 73 and Rosemary Martland nett 77.

Nearest the pin on the fifth hole went to was Josie Ashby, long drive winner on the 17th to Stratford and the least putts to Martland.
