Pairs shine in foursomes

LAST Wednesday 24 pairs of women teed off for the Shylie Rymill Foursomes and the Mount Gambier Golf Club’s Foursomes Championship in constant drizzle.

Foursomes are universally recognised as the most difficult game to play and the honours of the Shylie Rymill competition went to the pairing of Helen McIntyre and Julie Hanel, playing off a a 29 handicap.

They had a split of 51 on the front nine and 54 on the back for 105 and a nett 76.

Runner-up honours, just .5 shots back, was the combination of Lorraine Stratford and Lyn Hudson playing off 28.5.

The Club Foursomes Championship honours went to the pairing of Leanne Hunt and Helen Gregory on a 13.5 handicap.

They registered 46 on the front nine and 49 on the back for 95 off the stick.

Testament to how hard the Foursomes format is, the winning pair only recorded two pars on their card, but they both played consistent golf.

Runners-up on a count-back were Di Norman and Heather Barry (21) and they pencilled in 98 off the stick.

The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole was won by Helen Gregory.

Second shot on the par 5 seventh hole went to the long-hitting duo of Janina Morrison and Heather Teakle in A Grade, Denise Harvey and Mary Kentish in B Grade and C Grade went to sisters Debbie Sheather and Sue Ryan.

This weeks competition will be a stableford round for the women to compete in the first round of the Hudson Plumbing and Roofing competition.

Fine weather greeted 22 women on Saturday to compete in a stableford competition.

Gregory (16) took out first place with 38 points, with 20 on the front nine and 18 on the back for 36 points, with a genuine 87 off the stick.

Gregory recorded a birdie on the par 3, eighth hole, plus five pars.

Runner-up was Sue Coulter (27) who played consistent golf for her 35 points.

She chalked up 18 points on the front nine and 17 on the back.
