A BIG field of 48 women took to the fairways at the Mount Gambier Golf Club last week, enjoying fine weather and participating in the exacting stroke round, in conjunction with a stableford competition.

Jess Parsons claimed the win in Division 1 with a score of 89-20-69 nett.

Parsons played steady golf and recorded five pars, with splits of 43/46.

Val Grubb returned to golf and claimed second place with a score of 95-21-74 nett.

She had 46/49 on the two nines which included six pars.

In Division 2, Sue Coulter, who has been knocking on the door for a win, claimed the honours with a score of 98-27-71 nett.

Her split for the two nines was 50/48 off the stick.

Deb Sheather (114-42-72 nett) has been playing consistent golf and was rewarded for her second place in Division 2.

She had splits of 56/58 and recorded pars on the par 3 sixth and eighth holes.

Seven balls were handed out in the ball run down, going to Rosalie Hunt, Maxine McGregor, Penne Saffin, Helen Heaver, Linda Boylan, Kathie Ewer and Faye Mainwaring.

Best second shots on the par 3 10th hole went to A Grade’s Di O’Donnell, B Grade’s Helen Heaver (for a Birdie) and C Grade’s Sue Downes.

On the day 11 women opted to play a stableford competition and with 41 points, Sue McPherson claimed the win.

Her score included two four-point holes and five three-pointers, with no wipe-outs.

This week the unforgiving game of a par round will be played and will be the last leg of the Summer Salver.

The winner will be the competitor to have the three best scores on their card.

The Salver will be presented at the Open Day on March 6 by life member Isobel Phillips.

Meanwhile, good golfing weather was welcomed by 19 women on Saturday for a par round, sponsored by Empak Homes.

Relishing her return to golf, Val Grubb (20 handicap) went one better than Wednesday’s runner-up effort and claimed the win after a score of all square.

Grubb returned 46 off the stick on the front nine and with 51 on the difficult back.

Second place went to Jennifer Van Ritjhoven (13) registering 1-down.

Her split for the nines was 2-down and 1-up.

Six balls were handed out to Marie Douglas 1-down to Penne Saffin 5-down.

The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole went to Faye Mainwaring.
