EAST GAMBIER v WEST GAMBIER

REIGNING Western Border netball premier West Gambier heads to McDonald Park this week to take on East Gambier.

The Roos will look to keep their unblemished 2023 record intact, while the hosts will be eager to prove themselves against a top-three side.

West has been able to field its premiership line-up in most matches this season which has given the Roos an added advantage.

In contrast East has battled injuries and player unavailability all season and does not have the chemistry of previous seasons.

Stopping West shooter Sarah Ritter is the number-one focus of most teams.

While Morgan Amy will take that challenge on as her direct opponent, she will be hoping Bo Creek, Eliza Cole and Chloe Perryman can place plenty of pressure on their opponents – Lisa McGregor, Tara Bryant and Mikaela Horrigan – to ensure the feeds to Ritter are pressured.

At the other end it will take patience from the Bulldogs to work their way through the West defensive line.

Zoe Malseed, Amy Cram and Jade Ritter loom large and the trio comes off a performance against North Gambier which really restricted the Tigers’ scoring opportunities.

Tarsh McCallum will be key to marshalling the troops at the offensive end for the Bulldogs, while the work rate of Casey Horrigan will again be pivotal in opening up space in the shooting circle.

Accuracy on the shot will also be important as Cram and Ritter are rarely outrebounded.

East has had its moments of challenging the top sides but is yet to upset one of the contenders.

It is unlikely this will change on Saturday with West in the box seat for a Round 13 win.
