Improved Cats hopeful

SOUTH GAMBIER v CASTERTON SANDFORD

CASTERTON Sandford recovered from a poor start last round to put in a competitive second half in their loss to East Gambier.

This weekend a strong start will be key as the Cats look to challenge South Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park in their quest for a drought-breaking victory.

Madalene Cleary has been in outstanding form at goal attack for the Cats and her battle with athletic South defender Ellie Bouchier will be one of the match-shaping contests of the game.

Cats shooter Ivy Lane also comes off a strong performance and her ability to gain more possession against Demon defender Sophie Wight will go a long way to keeping the Cats in the game.

At the other end, the defensive duo of Caeleigh Humphries and Ebany Jarrad will need to be at their close-checking best to put the South shooting combination of Gracie Dalton and Alyssa Duncan under pressure from the get go.

The mid-court match ups loom large as well with Casterton Sandford’s Madelina Patton, Chelsey Galpin and Chloe Foster taking on Tully McShane, Ruby Richter and Megan Reid in a battle of the young guns.

South has won both the encounters in 2023 so far but will need to be at its best to maintain that perfect record over the Cats this season.
