THE second round of the Grant and Dianne Perryman sponsored short-course trophy was played in mild conditions, at the Blue lake golf club last week, albeit with some gusty wind to contend with.

The format was stableford for the short course yellow marker competition with reduced handicaps, a daily scratch rating to 60 and par 65 determined by golflink.

The Division 1’s handicap range was 0 – 19 and Division 2’s 20 – 45.

The score of the day came from Division 1’s Johanna Gogan, who signed for 36 points.

Division 1 winner Ronda Edwards, playing off a seven handicap, took the challenge of the shortened course with ease to post 35 points.

Six pars were included in the front nine 17 points, with another four pars and a birdie three on the par four 17th for 18 points.

Runner-up Dianne Perryman signed for 30 points with splits of 16/14 that included pars on the second, sixth, eighth and 13th holes.

Perryman was in a count-back from third-placed Geraldine Scott, also with 30 points and pars on the first, third and 16th holes, for splits of 17/13.

Top voucher winner for Division 2, Gogan, had splits of 17/19 after a slow start on the first hole with a wipe, a par on the second and scores on the next seven holes.

The back nine included pars on the 12th and 18th holes and no wipes to play to her handicap of 22.

Playing off 22, runner-up Carol Melhuish is continually taking a place on the podium and her second place from 32 points included splits of 15/17, with only one wipe.

Bev Pascoe claimed third place off her 20 handicap and is another regular on the podium.

Her 30 points included wipes on the second and 17th holes and pars on the seventh, 13th and 18th.

Nearest the pin second shot on the 16th hole went to Division 1’s Scott and Division 2’s Vivienne Wilson.

Lucy Richards was the pro-shot winner.

Birdies prizes went to Sue Agars on the 14th hole, Wilson on the 16th and Edwards on the 17th.

Chocolate bars for chip-in ferrets were won by Scott on the third hole, Melhuish the seventh and Lynette Hirth on the 15th.

Tomorrow will be the third round of the short-course in stroke format.

With the spring-like conditions on Saturday, the course was still a little heavy underfoot after heavy night rain.

The women played a par competition with some reasonable scores attainable for a few and it was Helen Stratford off 19 leading the way, finishing 1-down.

After an outward nine that included three plusses, nullified by three-wipes, turning all square, a double-bogey on the 10th was followed with eight halved holes to get across the line ahead of Karen Panagopoulos with 2-down.

Off a 25 handicap her front nine of 2-down included seven halved and two wiped holes.

Panagopoulos played to her handicap on the back nine, finishing square with two wipes, six halved holes and two-plusses.

Next was Cherryl Hill 4-down off a 22 handicap playing two consistent nines of 2-down, with three-plusses on her card.

The nearest the pin winner was Kate Hommelhoff and novelty best front nine winner was Stratford.
