RECENT Blue Lake Archers competitions have seen an increase in competitors on the shooting line as junior archers have joined in, starting their journey into the sport.

The recent Indoor archery rounds have retained their standard flavour of twin Australian 18-metre rounds and have had a mixture of winners, all of whom had broken out of their benchmark in the handicap adjusted scores.

Count-backs to determine finishing positions is not unusual in the adjusted score system, but to have to apply it to sort the first three placings in one of the indoor rounds was an unusual occurrence.

Paul Freeman and Fiona Allison both finished on 301 points, the win going to Freeman and then third place need to be settled by another count-back between Jeff Puckridge and

Matt Delaney, who had both finished on 300 points, Puckridge credited with third place.

The other recent rounds were less congested at the top of the order.

Anthony Cox, Allison and Freeman were the clear winners in the other three rounds.

The junior ranks are having their first competitive rounds as they test their progressing skill levels on the indoor and outdoor ranges.

Seth Delaney, Blade Delayney and Nash Radford have all made their first appearances on the score sheets with very pleasing results.

Coaching sessions prior to the club’s Sunday afternoon outdoor rounds remain well attended as budding archers improve their skills.

The two recent outdoor competition rounds went to a pair of the newer archers on the range, Anthony Cox snaring a win in a 72-arrow BLA 50/720 round and Matt Delaney picked up a win when competing in the triple-distance Short Canberra round last Sunday.

Friday night indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm on Sunday.
