KALANGADOO made it a three-peat of Cox Bros Shield premierships on Sunday as it defeated Mil Lel by 39 runs in the grand final at the Yahl Cricket Club.

The Magpies batted first and after losing three early wickets, soon kicked into gear.

Benjamin Newton and Reece Carlson steadied the flow of wickets and made it to 3/77 before the former departed.

Alex Carter then came in and scored a quick-fire 18 before he was dismissed.

After a flurry of wickets, the game was in the balance at 6/116, before Brandon Newton put in a player of the match performance to change the game.

Newton scored 62 runs off 46 balls and helped his side reach 229 at the end of the 60 overs.

Harry Hicks was the best of the bowlers for Mil Lel and took 3/31 off 11 overs.

In response, Newton and Andrew Stone were key players for Kalangadoo with the ball.

Wayne Lawson put up a fight while batters fell around him and scored 79 runs off 141 balls before he was run-out by Stone.

After Lawson’s departure at 5/176, the tail soon collapsed shortly after and Mil Lel was bowled out for 190.

Stone was the best of the bowlers with 4/49 off 16.2 overs, while Reece Carlson picked up three wickets, and Newton claimed two.
