GAMBIER CENTRALS 5/94 d SOUTH GAMBIER 10/70

GAMBIER Centrals’ dominance in the Crouch Shield continued on Saturday as they took home the season spoils off the back of a dominant grand final bowling display.

Centrals’ Hayden Sanders put in a captain’s performance to remember as he took 5/14 off 8.3 overs to help his side bowl South Gambier out for 70 runs at Malseed Park.

He was supported by Brayden Barker and Kevin Risely who combined for the other five wickets.

Sanders’ five-wicket haul also earned him the player of the grand final award before his team chased down the total with relative ease.

Josh Thompson was the best with the bat as he scored an unbeaten 37 for Centrals in response, while Bryce Whicker took 3/25 for the Demons.

He was supported by Mitchell Sims and Daniel Loupos, who both took a wicket as well before stumps were called on Day 1 with the score 5/94.

Play was then called off on Sunday due to the weather and Centrals celebrated a first-innings win to take home the 2022-23 Shield.
