THE Mount Gambier Cycling Club will hold its Crank the Crater individual time trial this Sunday.

Riders of all abilities are invited to put themselves to the test in the fourth running of the event, sponsored by Mount Gambier Lakes Rotary and City of Mount Gambier.

The event was introduced in 2019 by Mount Gambier Cycling Club president Dean Zeven and since then has become a hit within the cycling community.

Last year 25 riders competed for bragging rights, with the event growing each edition.

Starting at the bottom of the Valley Lakes, the climb is around 2km, with the fastest riders registering times of about four minutes.

However, there are several classes on offer and prizes for each, catering for all ages and abilities.

Riders do not need a current Auscycling Licence in order to participate, with all human-powered bikes eligible to enter, including BMX, mountain, commuter and road.

E-bikes can be used, but will not be recognised in fastest times.

Roads will be closed in the Valley Lakes precinct for the event, from the bottom of the Valley Lakes car park, up to the Centenary Tower Car Park.

As such vehicles will need to be in the precinct by 7.30am, with time trials to commence by 8am.

The entry fee for the event is $5.00 and is payable on the day.
