LAST Thursday, a stableford round was played at the Mount Gambier Golf Club and Tony Geddes posted the round of the day with an impressive 40 points to claim a one-point victory.

Geddes had a tidy but unspectacular front nine of 18 points with a wipe on the fifth hole counteracted by a birdie on the seventh hole.

He then took his game to the next level on the back nine and was on fire with a two-over 38 off the stick.

Geddes added 22 points to his score in the back nine and made a birdie on the difficult 14th hole.

The only negative from his impressive back nine was a bogey on the final hole.

Chris Lynch was runner-up with 39 points and also scored 22 on the back nine.

His run home included a birdie on the 17th hole for five points but his 17 on the front nine saw him fall agonisingly short.

Mike Foran, Jim Leane and Sam Mainwaring were one point further back on 38 points.

The ball rundown was extended to 34 points and Chris Gabriel claimed the the final prize.

The nearest to pins went to Henry Forbes on the eighth hole and Greg Hudson on the 16th hole and both players managed to sink their birdie putts which followed.

On Saturday, Archie Milich was in a league of his own as he surpassed the magical 40-point barrier and returned a sensational 44 points to post the round of the day and claim the C Grade win by four points over Peter Emetlis.

Milich started strongly with 23 points on the front nine before backing it up with a solid 21 points on the inward nine.

In A Grade, Ross Bond posted 40 points to win by one point over runner-up Roger Davis.

Bond’s round was steady with five bogeys, one double and 12 pars to post 79 off the stick.

Davis started strongly with a birdie on the first hole and another on the 16th but was left to rue his bogey and double-bogey to end the round.

In B Grade, Jordan Stark and Andrew Birks both posted scores of 38 points and Stark took home the win on countback.

It was a sluggish start for Stark as he picked up just 16 points on the front nine.

However, he came home strong to score 22 on the back nine to clinch victory.

Birks was consistent throughout with splits of 18 and 20.

Jack Jennings and Leigh McManus posted 37 points, while popular member Pepe Pace turned in 36 points.

The ball rundown was extended to 33 points, while Ross Anderson and Pace were the nearest to the pins on the eighth and 16th holes.
