THE Castec Rural Mount Gambier Pioneers men have welcomed their first player re-signing for the 2023 NBL1 South season, with Kane de Wit back on board.

Son of Pioneers’ legend Ray de Wit, Kane is a former Mount Gambier Laker junior and was recipient of the 2022 Golden Hands award.

The 25-year-old was a National Championship player with the Pioneers in 2015 and 2017 before a stint with the Forestville Eagles in the Adelaide Premier League in 2019 and 2020.

He was an integral part of the Eagles’ 2019 championship team, which coincidentally defeated the Pioneers in the title game.

In his two seasons back with the Pioneers, de Wit has become an increasingly important part of the roster, demonstrating his leadership on and off the court.

In 2022 de Wit had a solid all-round season where he averaged just under 5.92 points per game, 4.96 assists and 4.29 rebounds.

Pioneers head coach Richard Hill said he was thrilled to see de Wit sign with the team for another season.

“I’m excited Kane is remaining a Pioneer in 2023,” Hill said.

“He continues to be a key player in our team and is a floor leader who is strong at both ends of the court.

“Kane continues to improve and was a strong contributor in our successful 2022 season.

“I am confident that there will be further improvement in the 2023 season.”
