THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its sporting and balltrap competitions last week and despite the unfavourable conditions – which saw shooters battle wind, rain and lightning – the competitors still managed impressive scores.

The opening event was the Dougal Simson Family 50-target five stand sporting clays and the shooters recorded strong scores.

Jamie Dunn was in top form and took out the AA Grade win with a score of 47/50.

He narrowly defeated Tim Widdison, who was runner-up with a score of 46/50.

Seasoned-shooter Christopher Wright showed off his fast reflexes with a strong score of 47/50 to win A Grade from runner-up Ernie Scheidl.

Steve Chambers claimed a comfortable victory in B Grade and Frank Kentish was runner-up while Nicola Dunn just edged out Warren Lindner to seal the victory in C Grade.

The Sealey Springs 25 target balltrap championship was also shot with impressive accuracy despite the unideal conditions.

Andrew Hoare claimed the AA Grade honours with a perfect score of 25/25 to edge out runner-up Dougal Simson.

Wright’s impressive form continued after he claimed the A Grade competition with a score of 23/25, while Lindner’s 28/32 was enough to claim second place.

Rodney Gilcrist took home the victory in B Grade with a score of 21/25 and Steven Scheidl was runner-up with a score of 23/28.

After a quick shoot-off to decide victory in C Grade, Wayne Evans claimed the honours ahead of Daniel Robinson.

The Mount Gambier Gun Club’s next event will be on November 12.
