TIGERS 17 d FEDERALS 0

FRIDAY night baseball saw Tigers take on the young Federals outfit for the first time in the Division 1 Mount Gambier District Baseball League season.

It was important for Tigers to stamp its authority early and it did just that.

Federals struggled early with the humidity in the air and the big names of Jesse Foster, Garth Ransom and Tyler Horrigan looking to cause damage early.

Ben Marcus led proceedings for the orange and black with a nice single to get a runner on the board.

Federals let a number of batters get to first base easily with some erratic pitching and errors, which handed their opponent a 6-0 lead after the first innings.

Tigers coach Ransom has been open in his desire for his team to have a “foot on the throat” mentality and that is exactly what they did on Friday.

Garret Ha found the middle of the bat and stood up at second base cleaning the bases in the third and Tigers moved further ahead.

By the conclusion of the fifth inning the lead was out to 13-0 with no chance for a Federals comeback.

A pitching change for Tigers saw veteran Ben Marcus take the mound and he did not look out of place.

He threw well to retire Federals again before Tigers put the final nail in the coffin with four more runs over the next two innings.

Ha and Marcus led the way for Tigers with the bat with two hits, while Foster and Ransom both collected one each plus a walk.

For Federals it was Eastufali who battled hard with two hits.

The second Division 1 clash was played on Saturday afternoon between Central and South Indians.

In what was tipped as the match of the round, Centrals stamped its authority on the match early in the piece to claim an eventual 25-5 victory.

The Magpies have now secured the claim to top spot on the ladder, while South will look to work on a few things and bounce back next round.
