Hawker wins at Bordertown

The Bordertown Gun Club held its Two-Day Birthday shoot recently.

This was the first time the annual event has been run since 2019 due to Covid.

The first day of the shoot saw around 50 competitors from International, Melbourne, Mornington, Mount Gambier, Southern, Darwin, Hopetoun, Central Wimmera, Noorat, Patchewollock, Wilkawatt , Warracknabeal and Bordertown clubs take part in three events.

The first event was the 30 Target Pointscore Championship, with Ash Hawker the best performer with a score of 104/105.

Bryan Peter was the next-best in AA Grade with a score of 91/93.

Lisa Hawker claimed the honours in A Grade with a score of 101/105, while George Karageorgis was runner-up with a score of 109/114.

In B Grade, it was Michael Rudd who was victorious, ahead of Anna Evgeniou, while Neil Paton was the winner in C Grade with John McIntyre the runner-up.

The 30 Target Single Barrel Championship saw Jamie Dunn claim the overall honours with a perfect score of 30/30.

AA Grade’s Wayne Hawker was close behind with an overall score of 53/54.

Robert Jorgensen scored 35/36 to narrowly defeat Rick Zupanic in A Grade, while Evgeniou won B Grade with a score of 28/30.

There was a three-way-tie for second place in B Grade with Peter Winser, Michael Sutton and Gary Pike tied on 25/30.

Paton claimed C Grade again with a score of 28/30, while Nicola Harradine was runner-up just one shot behind.

The third event was the 40 Target Double Barrel Championship and competitors shot with impressive accuracy with the shoot not decided until near-dark.

Ash Hawker defeated Kane Hawker in a thrilling shoot-off for the overall and AA Grade honours.

Ash Hawker scored a superb 160/160, ahead of Kane Hawker, who scored 159/160.

The accurate shooting continued across all grades as Grant Carter claimed the victory in A Grade with a score of 92/93.

Greg Pridmore was a runner-up with an impressive score of 70/71.

After finishing runner-up in the second event, Sutton improved to win B Grade with a score of 50/51.

Rodney Gilcrist took home second place just one shot behind Sutton.

Paton made it three from three in C Grade with a score of 56/57, while Brian Case was runner-up with a score of 39/40.

The fourth event of the weekend and the first on Sunday, was the 50 target Pointscore Championship.

Mark Newcoombe shot with unrivalled accuracy to score 150/150 and claim victory.

Ash Bolwell was runner-up with an impressive score of 149/150.

In A Grade, it was Wayne Sanders who was victorious with a score of 146/150, while Hamish Keatley was runner-up with a score of 143/150.

Pike put in an impressive performance to win B Grade ahead of Gilcrist, while Paton’s strong form continued as he won C Grade, with Case runner-up once more.

The final event of the two-day shoot was the 50 Target Continental Championship.

The competition was again shot with impressive accuracy and Mitch Iles scored a perfect 78/78 to claim the overall and AA Grade honours from Wayne Hawker who was one-shot behind.

Allan Jones was winner in A Grade, while Lisa Hawker was runner-up.

Gilcrist claimed victory in B Grade, with Winser a close runner-up, while C Grade saw Doug Harris take the throne from Paton, who was runner-up.

After the conclusion of the five events, Ash Hawker took home the overall Highgun, with a strong display of shooting which saw him end the weekend with a score of 355/360.

Don Pratt took home the AA Grade Highgun, with a score of 354/360, while A Grade’s Highgun was won by Carter, with a score of 342/360.

Evgeniou was the winner in B Grade, with an overall score of 327/360, while Paton took home the C Grade honours with a final score of 345/360.

Lisa Hawker claimed the Women’s Highgun with a score of 328/360 and Ollie Zielezna was the Junior winner.

In the Veteran’s competition, Don Beelitz and Steve Chambers claimed the Highgun with scores of 336/360.
