Puckridge impresses with strong weekend

BLUE Lake Archers competed in both indoor and outdoor rounds over the weekend, with a solid turnout of competitors for Friday’s indoor round.

The highly-competitive Friday rounds saw two different archers claim the spoils.

In the first round, performances were even across the group before Tamika Mullan and Jeff Puckridge made a small break from the rest of the group.

The pair’s battle went down to the wire and after scores were adjusted for handicaps, there was just the solitary point to separate the two, with Mullan claiming the honours.

Ben Kilsby and Paul Freeman pushed forward in the second round but were unable to top the steady performance from Puckridge, who claimed the second round by three points over Kilsby in what was a thrilling encounter with the top four separated by just nine points.

With the threat of rain on Sunday, the archers selected a World Archery 60/900 round which they completed with minimal interruption.

Puckridge put in another strong performance which kept the highly-skilled Kilsby honest for the bragging rights of best off the bow.

However, in the end it was Kilsby who claimed the best score off the bow.

Puckridge was the only archer to claim a personal best score over the weekend with 842 off the bow in Sunday’s round a new height for him which was also enough to claim the victory by 24 points once handicaps were adjusted.

Indoor archery will resume on Friday night at Malseed Park at 7pm, before the outdoor round is held on Sunday at Corriedale Park at 12.30pm.
