MILLICENT will be a hive of activity when the 2022 Millicent Junior Basketball Tournament attracts around 80 teams to the city this weekend.

Associations from across South Australia and western Victoria will attend the tournament and compete across eight age groups for the annual two-day event.

Millicent stadium manager Peter Seebohm looks forward to the tournament and said it was all hands on deck this week to ensure everyone would be accommodated and catered for.

“We have teams from Portland, Warrnambool, Keith, Naracoorte, Bordertown, Mount Gambier and Millicent,” he said.

“We also have a sprinkling of three or four teams coming out of Adelaide and a couple of teams from Melbourne.

“We are reasonably happy with how it has turned out.”

Terang will be absent this year, due to complications putting teams together due to Covid precautions.

However, Seebohm expected there would still be up around 180 games played over Saturday and Sunday.

“We are using seven courts,” he said.

“We have the three courts at the stadium and four school gyms we will be using.”

From a local perspective, Seebohm expected a few of the Millicent Magic sides to be up the pointy end of the competition.

“Our 14 girls, 16 girls will be very competitive,” he said.

“We are expecting our 18 boys and 18 girls to be very competitive.

“We will have a few teams who will feature towards the end of it.”

However, they will be up against some tough opposition, particularly in the top age groups.

“We have some reasonably strong Under 18 boys teams coming,” Seebohm said.

“The two teams coming out of Melbourne are Division 1 teams out of the Melbourne competition.

“They are going to take some tossing.”

Seebohm gave credit to the countless hours put in by volunteers and event organisers and looked forward to seeing the juniors hit the courts this weekend.
