The Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club held its latest event on Sunday at Coonawarra.

The event was the sixth round of the Grass Track series and had more than 80 entrants.

“The turnout is not too bad, the numbers were a little bit low, the weather probably drew a few people away,” Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club vice-president Danny Habets said.

He said the club has over 100 competitors take part in the events but the numbers were lower this month due to a number of factors.

Habets has been a member of the club’s committee for more than four years and has stepped up to vice-president this year.

He said there are two more events left in the series before the main showcase event at the Millicent Show.

Habets expects a good crowd for the Millicent Stadium-Cross which is run on the Friday night of the show.

Brooke Marcus was one the competitors who was in action on Sunday and recently returned from a race in Adelaide.

“I have been competing since I was nine years-old,” Marcus said.

She said her father got her into the sport as he bought her a bike when she was young and has competed for 10 years.

Marcus has been in impressive form this year and is first in the Women’s Class for the series and she said she was in the top six for the South Australian Titles.

Max Midwinter has been one to watch this year and raced at the Coonawarra track on Sunday.

“I’ve been racing since I was about five years old,” he said.

“Dad used to race when he was younger, so he got me into it and I’ve been racing since then.”

Midwinter won a state title last year and is eager to continue his success further.

He said the state title victory was the highlight of his career.

Midwinter’s form has continued into this year as he is in the lead of the SA Off-Road State Titles.
