THE second round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial stableford trophy was met by rain-free conditions at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

Only a few of the 18 women were able to play close to their handicaps, a common winter occurrence.

The score of the day came from Ronda Edwards who posted 35 points from a 15 handicap.

Teeing off the back-nine 10th first up, she accumulated points from pars on the 15th and 18th and a birdie two on the par-three 14th.

It was a struggle on the front nine, even with pars on the first, second and fifth.

Edwards scored 15 points and would rue the missed opportunity on the sixth with a scrub for a better score.

The outward nine seemed to present a challenge for most, as runner-up Dianne Perryman can attest to.

She played off a 21 handicap and was only able to amass 14 points with no pars on the outward nine.

However, on the inward nine she managed a birdie three on the dog-leg par four 15th to make up for her only scrub on the third and finish with an overall 33 points.

A count-back was required for Perryman to claim second place, as Lynda Nannings signed for 33 points too.

Nannings (handicap 28) also had trouble on the outward nine.

She scored 13 points but made amends on the journey home with 18 on the inward nine.

That included a par on the 14th and only one scrub.

Division 2 was won by Carolyn Melhuish, who carded a 30-point score playing off a 35 handicap.

With splits of 13-17 she would have been disappointed with the four scrubs on her card after having pars on the 12th, 15th and 16th.

The minor placings required another count-back, as Lucy Richards (36) and Rose Case (40) both scored 27.

Richards had the better back-nine with splits of 12-15 and snatched the runner-up position from Case with 15-12.

The pro-shot on the downhill par three fifth was won by Edwards, while she also won the birdie prizes for the 14th and 16th holes.

Helen Stratford and Perryman also claimed birdie awards on the fifth and 15th holes respectively.

Ferret prizes went to Bev Pascoe on the second, Stratford on the eighth and Perryman for the 15th.

The women’s AGM was also held at the club, with outgoing president Beryl Mahoney making way for incoming president Lesley McPherson.

Lee Anderson continues on as vice president, while Sue Agars takes on the secretary role from Vivienne Wilson and Bev Pascoe replaces Dianne Allen as treasurer.

The women’s captain role for 2022-23 will be shared by co-captains Geraldine Scott and Helen Myers.

Perryman will remain on as handicapper, Allen committee and Stratford as publicity and sponsorship officer.
