Cutting wins stableford competition

THERE were 80 players who competed in last Thursday’s stableford competition at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Golfers were treated to cool but dry conditions as Michael Cutting topped the list to claim the $100 prize with an impressive 40 points.

The four handicapper put together an impressive round of 72 off the stick, which included birdies on the eighth, ninth, 11th, 15th and 16th holes.

Leigh McCracken claimed second place on a count-back from Dave Boyce and Robert Perryman, as the trio all posted scored of 38 points.

The ball rundown extended to 34 points as young-gun Blake Schroder claimed the last one.

The pro-shot on the eighth went to Gary Wilson with an impressive nine iron to 84 centimetres, while on the 16th hole, Mike Griffiths was the closest.

There were 15 other players ho scored birdies on the par 3’s, which included Joe Clements, Kym Sutherland, Daniel Long, Peter Gardner, Jack Peacock and Grant Stephenson.

Saturday saw 106 players greeted with extremely cold weather and the scores reflected the tough conditions on the day.

Judson Wheatley had the best score of the day with +4.

Wheatley claimed the B Grade win from Darren Griffin on +3.

In A Grade, Shane Brook finished on top with +2, while Tim Kenny was runner-up on +1.

In C Grade, John Miles finished square to claim the win on a count-back from Flynn Davison.

The ball rundown extended to -3 as Tim Driver missed out on a count-back.

There were nine players who scored birdies on one of the par 3’s, which included Peter Walters, Nick Black, Clint Mitchell, Archy Arch and Jeff Olafsen.

Black and Waters won the pro-shot on the eighth and 16th holes.
