LAST week saw thirty women participate in a Pinehurst competition at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

The partnered event, which is not played often, saw fifteen pairs compete for the winning prizes which were sponsored by playing member, Lorraine Stratford.

Golfers had to contend with heavy fairways and slower greens amidst chilly and cloudy conditions.

Helen McIntyre, who has been in the place-getters’ circle of late, combined with Lois Harvey to win the competition with a combined net score of 77.

Lyn Hudson and Ladies president Mary Kentish, were runners-up close behind with a net score of 78.

The ball rundown winners were Faye Mainwaring/Di Norman 80, Jan Shanahan/Gloria Lennon 81, Denise Harvey/Kate McCormick 81 and Carol Davis/Janina Morrison 81.

Denise Harvey had the closest shot on the eighth hole to take home the pro-shot prize.

A field of 11 women played a par round on Saturday and Lois Harvey continued her strong form as she claimed a runaway win with a score of one up.

Heather Chapman was runner-up and finished with a score of six down.

Helen Gregory returned from holidays to win both the pro-shot and the nearest-to-pin on the eighth and 16th holes.
