PORT MacDonnell claimed a down-to-the-wire victory over Tantanoola in their Round 7 Mid South East netball clash on Saturday.

There was little room to move throughout the game, which was set up for a classic showdown in the final term and did not disappoint.

The Demons won the toss and took the first centre pass, with a quick score to get on the board.

However, the Tigers responded with quick ball movement from Casey Walker on the wing and a safe delivery into her goalies.

The Port MacDonnell defensive end stepped up early, with Alana Winter and Belinda O’Dine getting hands to lots of ball to cause havoc for the Tiger’s Shooters.

At the offensive end Toni Gilmore was in fine touch and the Demons went to the first break up by two goals.

The Demons then lifted to another level in the second term and applied plenty of pressure on the Tigers’ attackers.

Brooke Williams and Narelle Lewis worked well in attack and were able to find each other and deliver some accurate feeds into their goalies to extend the lead to eight at half time.

The Tigers swung a few changes at the main break, with Ebony Cytrowski moving into the middle and Michelle Robinson on to wing defence.

The Tigers’ changes disrupted the Demons’ game plan and Kate Bromley and Tayla Rowe were able to get some crucial turnovers.

They were rewarded through Emma Gould who had an impressive 14 goals to her name for the quarter.

The final term was set up for a cracker and Casey Walker provided speed and precision passing from the wing and delivered well to her goalies.

After going goal-for-goal for majority of the quarter it was the Tigers who came up with a turnover deep into the term but they left their run too late and the Demons prevailed by a solitary goal.

Best players for the victors were Gilmore and Williams, while Cytrowski and Casey Walker were best for Tantanoola.
