EAST GAMBIER v SOUTH GAMBIER

LAST time these two met South Gambier had the edge for the first three quarters but in the end the Bulldogs were able to steady, force errors and secure the win.

That performance will give the young Demons confidence and with an injury cloud over Sarah Lock, who hurt her calf last week, East might need to be wary of its Round 7 opponent.

Lara Munro and Alyssa Duncan are an emerging shooting combination and they will do well to hold the front space this weekend.

It will be important for them to deny East defenders Bo Creek and Morgan Amy the chance to contest balls in the air, which is where the Bulldogs’ duo shines.

At the other end Grace Edwards will match up on East’s Amryn Bosko, who missed last week due to illness.

Their contest will be one of the most pivotal duels as Edwards comes off a strong performance on state player Annelise Janssen.

Ellie Bouchier will also be critical and the South goal defender is a great source of turnover ball, while Ruby Richter and Megan Reid will need to pressure the East feeders and not allow them easy access to the circle’s edge.

Reid takes on Emily Hunter and that is another critical match up, while Richter will need to use her height advantage to deny Tarsh McCallum, if she does not line-up in the shooting circle again.

Tully McShane and Reid will need to work overtime to ensure the Demons work the ball safely through the tough Bulldogs defence with Tyne Bosko on the defensive wing carrying outstanding form and Hunter always tough at the defensive end.

There is no reason the match should not be another tight contest but the Bulldogs’ experience will likely see them across the line again.
