There were joyous scenes at Nangwarry Football and Netball Club on Saturday when Federal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin officially unveiled the new facilities.

The Nangwarry community was out in full force to celebrate the grand opening off the back of a strong performance from their A Grade football side earlier in the evening.

After their clubhouse was burnt down in 2019, the club has been on the rebuild and the opening of the new facilities mark a momentous occasion for both the community and the club.

“The devastating fire that saw the Nangwarry clubrooms destroyed saw the club left without a home,” Mr Pasin said.

“When this happened, I wanted to see the clubrooms rebuilt as quickly as possible.

“That’s why I approached the Prime Minister to advocate for funding to help with the rebuild, and deliver that funding.

“Nangwarry Football and Netball Club now have a first-class facility to enjoy for many years to come.

“I congratulate the Nangwarry Football and Netball Club on finalising this fantastic project.”

Nangwarry club president, Shane Ploenges took part in the cutting of the ribbon to open the new clubrooms.

“It is a great day for the local community,” he said.

“It has been a long three years.

“We have had so much help from volunteers, members and tradesmen to makes this happen.

“Up until a couple of weeks ago, a few of us would get together on a Friday night outside and enjoy an ale or two, but now we have the inside comfort.”

The Nangwarry Football Club has been making great strides both on and off the field as they look to end their winless drought that dates back to 2014.

“Our club support has increased and this is due to the competitiveness on the field and of course the new facility,” Mr Ploenges said.

“We have some great lads coming on and all looks good for the future.”
