Roosters too strong at home

IN FORM: Sarah Laurie again showed plenty of class during the weekend's round of Mid South East netball.

Robe 83 d Kongorong 31

Round 5 of Mid South East netball was not kind to Kongorong, as Robe claimed a massive victory on their home court.

A fast start and a stop for injury time saw an unsettled five minutes of netball.

However, the second half of the opening term saw Robe work well together, with Sarah Laurie finishing off with accuracy to take an eight-goal lead to the first break.

Robe stepped up and consolidated in the second quarter, making the most of every turnover, as Annie Hunter and Lucy Perkins fed the ball to their goalies with precision.

While Kongorong’s Riley Buckingham made life tough for Robe’s Tori Gluyas in the circle, Robe still piled on the goals and extended its lead to 20 at the main break.

Some changes were made by both sides at half time, which included Georgia Perkins taking to the court for her first A Grade game of the season.

However, the barrage continued and in the third term Laurie missed just two goals to extend the lead to 39.

While the contest was now a formality, Kongorong again swung the changes in the hope of a more competitive final stanza.

However, Robe upped its defensive pressure and made the most of every turnover.

Buckingham played a good final term to net eight goals but it was too little, too late and the Roosters claimed a percentage-boosting victory.

Best for Robe were Hunter and Laurie, while Zara von Stanke and Emily Lightbody were best for the Hawks.
