Mount Burr took the challenge right up to Kalangadoo in Round 5 of Mid South East netball but in the end the Magpies did enough to claim the points in a tight contest.

Abbey Duncan returned for the Magpies and made her presence felt at goal attack.

Kori Collins scored the first goal of the game for Kalangadoo, which was met with a quick reply from Mount Burr.

The Magpies’ defensive pressure and strong rebounding was beginning to have an effect, while Mozzies’ defenders Maddi Haggett and Olivia Dean worked hard to keep the home side in touch.

Kalangadoo’s Reanna Weatherall and Lauren Kain were equally as tough at the other end of the court, with the Mozzies leading by just one goal at the first break.

The second term started goal-for-goal as the Magpies defence was forced to work hard against Mount Burr goalies Ebony Clark and Zoe Brown.

However, the Kalangadoo defensive pressure was beginning to take its toll and forced turnovers saw the Magpies lead by six goals at the main break.

Mount Burr got the first break in the third term, scroing off a Haggett intercept but Kalangadoo continued to pressure the ball the entire length of the court to limit the opportunities for the Mozzies to penetrate the shooting circle.

In an even quarter of netball, Kalangadoo held the same six-goal advantage at the final break.

The Magpies then scored the first three goals of the final quarter and Duncan was in fine form at goal attack, with nine of Kalangadoo’s 14 goals for the term with 100 per cent accuracy.

In the end Kalangadoo was able to hold on and stretch the margin to nine at the final whistle in an entertaining clash.

Collins and Wetherall were best for the victors, while Haggett and Laura Schultz were best for Mount Burr.
