Tigers seek redemption

MILLICENT v NORTH GAMBIER

NORTH Gambier will be disappointed with losing its first Anzac Day clash in many seasons and a rebound win will not be easy when the Tigers head to McLaughlin Park to take on an undefeated Millicent side.

But the Tigers have been a club in recent seasons which always seem to rise to the occasion of playing the competition benchmark and they will no doubt look to challenge again.

Caroline Wakefield is in stellar form, missing only one goal in the frenetic Anzac Day game and her battle with Portia McRae will be one of the most pivotal of the match.

At the other end, the defensive combination of Mel Renko and Zahra Crough-Healon has shown glimpses of its potential.

They will need to be at their best to quell the scoring power of Millicent, with Tabatha Sanderson, Demi Verbena and Paige Nitschke all accurate finishers.

The battle in the mid court will be intriguing as North’s Brianna Walters, who was outstanding with her hard running both ways on Anzac Day, takes on the likes of Hannah Nitschke and Daisy Tunkin.

If they do not find a way to quell the classy Tiger, Wakefield will end up with plenty of ball.

Last round Millicent was able to withstand a strong challenge from West, despite the Roos controlling the contest for much of the match.

If the Saints were able to win that meeting without coach Donna Denton and star goaler Demi Verbena, they should take the points over the Tigers, who are still working out their best combination and developing chemistry with a new-look lineup.
