Bay girls claim season honours

PORT MacDonnell’s Division 1 women’s Pennant team is in celebration mode after claiming a grand final victory against Kingston last week.

The Bay side travelled to Kingston to face the hosts, with a strong 52 shots, 6 points to 43 shots 2 points victory going to the visitors.

Skip Judith Grosvenor, Jan Dowdell, Robyn Burley and Sharon Perryman defeated Ann Ratsch’s team 32-21 shots.

After four ends the score was three-all then the Bay picked up a two and three.

Kingston claimed two, then the Bay put pressure on and after 15 ends led 22-8 and the game was as good as over.

Kingston scored the next nine shots and after 21 ends it was Port MacDonnell 27 to 17.

On the 23rd end the Bay picked up five shots to lead 32-18 to put the result to rest, with the final 32-21 scoreline testament to a strong team effort.

Skip Heather Richards,Carol Schmidt, Jennie Tilley and Nallia Lucus lost to Helen Vawser 20 shots to 22.

After nine ends the scores where level at nine-all and over the next three ends Kingston got eight shots to lead 17-9.

The Bay slowly clawed the lead back and at 21 ends the difference was 17-20 in Kingston favour, then after 25 ends it was Kingston 22 to Port MacDonnell 20.

As Judith Grosvenor’s team won with an 11-shot margin, it was enough to get the Bay home by nine shots overall and the premiership victory.
