Southern Ports stands tall

SOUTHERN Ports Tennis Association claimed both the Baker and Ey shields in a strong performance at the Lucindale Country Club.

The Mount Gambier Tennis Association travelled to Lucindale to take on Southern Ports, with each association entering two teams in each shield, with the total points combining for the day.

Southern Ports looked the part with team shirts who were kindly donated by Bendigo Bank, Mats Plumbing Robe, Menz Earthworks Kingston, TDC and Elders Insurance.

The Baker Shield started as a tight contest, with the Southern Ports women winning but the Mount Gambier men keeping the contest close.

However, the Southern Ports third and fourth men had some solid results in doubles and singles to give the association the edge.

Southern Ports continued to play well in the afternoon to win the Baker Shield 31-17, after last winning in 2018-19.

The Ey shield was a little more one-sided, as Southern Ports dominated the day from start to finish but despite the end score line there were some exceptional tennis being played.

In the end Southern Ports won the Ey Shield 38-10.
