Robe holds social bowls

WOMEN'S TRIPLES WINNERS: Kerrie Boyd, Ann Moore and Valma Jennings

SOCIAL bowls on Dec 30 were sponsored by the Robe Caledonian Inn.

Two games of 12 ends were played with 1×2 game winners on 56 points, Stephen Kennett and Garry Fox who won the Cally vouchers.

January 6 social bowls was sponsored by West Beach Burritos.

Three bowl pairs were played and again only 1×2 game winner.

Deane Nankivell and Paul Truelove won the vouchers with 53 points.

The Men’s and Women’s triple championships were played Saturday with some teams having to withdraw due to Covid-19.

Maria Cooper, Tracey Gray and Barb Brown had a bye the first round and a forfeit the second to go straight into the final.

Kerrie Boyd, Ann Moore and Valma Jennings had a forfeit in the first round and then played Lorraine Dening, Nola Peel and Jo Sykes with a strong win.

In the final they played Cooper, Gray and Brown.

Jennings’ team had a great start, with Brown’s team not getting off four shots for quite a few ends, then made a comeback too late, losing 20-15 to Boyd, Moore and Jennings.

In the first round of the Men’s triples, Robin Ling, Ali Douglas and Errol Jennings defeated Rob Hooper, Paul Truelove and Dean Woodward.

Josh Waddell, Gordon Brown and Ken Smith defeated Vic Dawson, Peter DeLaine and Jim Gray.

The second round saw Rob Lawrie, Dean Burgoyne and Harold Manton defeat Errol Jennings’ team while Peter Gregory, Pat Lynch and Peter Roachock defeated Ken Smith’s team.

Roachock’s team got off to a great start in the final with 12-5 after 9 ends, with Manton’s team fighting back to be 15 all after 15 ends.

Manton’s team won the 16th end and Roachocks with the 17th and 18th, making it a tie on the 18th and final end, causing an extra end to be played.

Roachocks team had one shot up with Harold Manton to play the last bowl.

He played a drive, removed the shot bowl and his team won the Men’s Triples Championship by 2 shots.
