Millicent 19.10 (124) d West Gambier 4.6 (30)

MILLICENT goal kicking dynamo Gene Robinson has improved his chances of reaching 100 goals in a minor round with relative ease, after a bag of 14 on the weekend.

Robinson was on fire as the Saints made short work of West Gambier in Round 13 of Western Border football, with the Roos unable to slow his progress.

He now sits on 91 goals in the shortened season, with two rounds left to play.

As for the game itself, West had no answer for the Saints’ onslaught, as Millicent simply ran rampant at Malseed Park.

The Saints went to the first break with a 22-point lead, with the Roos only able to find a solitary major.

That trend continued in the second quarter, although Millicent did only add a couple of extra majors.

Again West could only kick one major score.

The home side was kept goal-less in the third quarter, but it was the fourth where the real damage was done.

The Saints banged on 10 major scores to run the game out in style and provide Robinson with a real chance of the 100-goal milestone.

Jacob Carger chipped in with two goals for Millicent, while West’s four goals came from individual scorers.

South Gambier 9.11 (65) d North Gambier 5.6 (36)

Out at Blue Lake Sports Park South Gambier continued its impressive season with a comfortable victory over North Gambier.

The former powerhouse Tigers have been unable to touch the resurgent Demons this season and the weekend was no different.

Despite a first-quarter lead of five points, North could not keep the momentum going, as the Demons found their groove in the second term and turned the game around with a handy 15-point advantage at the long break.

It was certainly not one-way traffic from there, but the Tigers were behind at three-quarter-time to the tune of 22 points and were kept goal-less in the final term as South controlled the quarter and ran out comfortable victors.

Multiple goals were hard to come by for all players, with Mitchell and Noah Sims topping the list for South with three and two goals respectively.

Brett Shepherdson was the only multiple goal kicker for North with two to his name.

The game between Casterton Sandford and East Gambier set down for Island Park was cancelled late due to cross-border restrictions.
